This will help strengthen letter-sound correspondence, as well as build memory skills that kids will use as they get better at reading. Listen to the word out loud first, and then pick the text that matches. Try sounding out the letters, to help you find the right word.What is even better is that once children learn the 37 most common word families in English they will be able to decode 500 words. Word families are indeed an efficient way to get children reading. Once children learn these one-syllable phonograms then they will more easily be able to decode longer words, too.
